Havana, Cuba, Jan 15.- The Superior Basketball League (LSB by its Spanish acronym), which men’s event will involve eight teams, will start today with the interesting match between Capitalinos and Ciego de Avila.
This should be the most eagerly awaited game of the first subseries as it involves the reigning champion and last year’s runner up.
Thus, Capitalinos will attempt to have a good start defending its crown, in a match that will take place at La Mariposa court in Manuel Fajardo University of Sciences of Physical Culture and Sports, in Havana.
Pinar del Rio-Artemisa, Guantanamo-Camaguey and Santiago de Cuba-Villa Clara, at home of the first, will also be competing on Friday and Saturday.
The women’s vent will bring together six teams and in two-round round-robin tournament, the first of which will be from January 15 to 20 in Guantanamo, and the second on from 23 to 28 of the same month in Pinar del Rio.
According to sources of the national commission of the sport, the semifinals and the title discussion would be on January 30 and 31 in Havana.
Today, in the competitive start, Capitalinas will rival Camagüey, Guantanamo will face Santiago de Cuba; while Pinar del Rio, winner of the title in the last three editions of the tournament, will clash with Villa Clara.
Ruperto Herrera, president of the Cuban Basketball Federation, told ACN that the official opening will be tomorrow January 16 at La Mariposa, due to constant rains in recent days.(acn)
