Havana, Cuba, Jul 24.- The 47th contingent of the Venceremos Brigade, one of the first U.S. groups of solidarity with Cuba to be created, will celebrate with Guantanamo residents the Day of National Rebellion, in what will be its first visit outside the country’s capital.
From 25 July to August 6, the brigade, identified with the revolutionary process of the island, will visit the eastern Cuban city of Guantanamo to reaffirm ties of friendship.
This time the about twenty visitors will celebrate July 26 with local families, in a Committee for the Defense of the Revolution of the Workers Neighborhood of the city, and the following days will join with young local residents for voluntary work activities and visit places of interest in the region.
On Tuesday, they will also work in an organoponic garden of the area, and during the next three days will support the construction of the perimeter fence of the University of Guantanamo, and will also join sanitation works in the densely populated Reparto Caribe.
They will visit an agricultural cooperative of the Manuel Tames municipality on August 2, and on the fourth they will take part in the traditional pilgrimage of the Political Song Day, in memory of the martyrs of the Revolution in Guantanamo.
They will also be part of the program of tours of the Provincial Museum, the Changui Center, the headquarters of the Babul Folk Group and the children's theater company La Colmenita of Guantanamo, the Border Brigade, and the city of Baracoa, which celebrates 505 years of existence.
The brigadistas come from different sectors and U.S. cities and during their stay in the territory they will also know about the care of the elderly, by visiting old people’s homes, and will speak with pedagogues of the 14 de Junio Special School, with journalists and bloggers. (acn)
