Washington, Jan 25.- Sylvester Turner, mayor of Houston, expressed to a delegation of Cuban businesspeople the willingness of this US city to strengthen trade ties with Cuba.
In the meeting held in Houston, Texas, with senior officials that are visiting the United States until February 3rd, Turner also highlighted the significance of seizing the possibilities allowed by the US current regulations.
According to the statement issued by the Cuban Embassy in the United States, the Cuban delegation visited facilities at the container terminal of Bayport in Houston port, and also held a meeting with the port authorities of this city.
In the meeting the strengthening of ties between the Port of Houston and the Port of Mariel was discussed.
The businesspeople also attended an event carried out at the Houston Club on the Cuban economy and the portfolio for foreign investment in Cuba.
The Cuban delegation, which began the tour last Saturday and will also visit Louisiana, Florida, Virginia and Washington DC, is made up of Ana Teresa Igarza, general director of the Special Development Zone of Mariel and Jose Sosa Barrios, deputy director of the Container Terminal of Mariel S.A.
It is also made up of Eradis Gonzalez de la Peña, president of Almacenes Universales S.A., Rene R. Fernandez, director of Maritime and River Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation, as well as other officials. (PL)
