Matanzas, Jun 13.- The main Cuban resort, Varadero, plans the arrival of million and a half of foreign tourists for 2017, forecast Ivis Fernandez, delegate of the Toruism Ministry (Mintur) in the province of Matanzas, where the famous destination is located.
Fernandez explained to the press that the high season half a million tourists visited the known tourist pole and exceeded the forecast of income and profits, reducing costs and expenses.
The Mintur direction board pointed out that the winter season in Varadero closed favorably with increases of 4.7 percent compared with similar period of the previous year.
Varadero, on the north coast of the Matanzas territory and 140 kilometers east of Havana, is considered among the 10 best beaches in the world, and the local authorities purpose is precisely to protect this important resource.
Fernandez said that Canada maintains its leadership as the main market for visitors, followed by Germany, national customers, as well as growth of Russian, French and Italian vacationers.
'We have strengths to improve the quality of our products, where the sun and the beach excel, but there is also a strong interest in our culture, heritage and something essential, our people and the security provided by the country,' she pointed out.
According to data from the Mintur, Varadero currently has 21,500 rooms distributed in 57 hotels, and an investment process is underway where the buildings of the Gran Caribe and Gaviota tourist groups stand out, which must be put into operation in the next biennium.
For the coming summer season, the source said, it is intended to maintain the coordinated work of the agencies to favor programs in the interests of culture, sport and recreation, particularly in the months of July and August. (Prensa Latina)
