11th International Convention on Environment and Development begins today



Havana, July 3.- Delegates from over 25 countries, together with ministers, vice ministers, academics and representatives of international organizations, will participate in the 11th International Convention on Environment and Development, which opens today in the Havana International Conference Center, and will session through this Friday, July 7.

Under the slogan “United and integrated for a prosperous and sustainable development,” the event will host six congresses on Climate Change, Ecosystem Management and Biodiversity, Environmental Education for Sustainable Development, Protected Areas, Environmental and Political Management, and Environmental Law and Justice.

Three symposia will also be held, dedicated to Sustainability Sciences, Disaster and Climate Risks, and Natural History Museums, as well as the colloquia Sustainable Land Management and Transport and Environment.

The opening day will see the Colloquium on Fidel’s Environmental Thought, which includes the screening of films produced by Mundo Latino, and a special presentation by the Proyecto Acualina, created by Ángela Corvea.

Cuba’s Minister of Science, Technology and Environment, Elba Rosa Pérez Montoya, will deliver the opening remarks.

According to the event organizing committee, among the nations attending the event are Mexico, the United States, Colombia, Spain, Argentina, Costa Rica, Chile, Portugal, Peru, the Dominican Republic and Brazil. (Orfilio Peláez /Granma)
