Havana, Cuba, Sept 1st.- Irma is an intense hurricane that has quickly intensified in the Atlantic Ocean, reported the Meteorology Institute in its Tropical Storm Advisory Report number 4.
Hurricane Irma has quickly intensified over the eastern Atlantic, increasing its maximum sustained winds of 185 kilometers per hour with superior gusts and is a category 3 hurricane in the Saffir-Simpson scale.
At 6pm Thursday, the center of Irma was estimated at the 17.4 degrees North latitude and 35.0 degrees West longitude, some 2 thousand 830 kilometers east of the Lower Antilles.
The system is moving west-northwest at some 19 kilometers per hour.
During the next 12 to 24 hours it is predicted that Irma will continue will the same path and velocity with some fluctuations in its intensity but maintaining its strength.
The next tropical storm advisory report will be issued on Friday 6pm local time. (ACN)
