Catalonia is proclaimed finally as an independent state in the form of a republic



Madrid, Oct 27. - The Parliament of Catalonia today approved a resolution declaring the independence of that region of the north-east of Spain, on the eve of being intervened by the government of Mariano Rajoy.

The legislative assembly of the Autonomous Community consumption their challenge and endorsed a proposal for a resolution which proclaims "the Catalan republic as a sovereign and independent, democratic and social state of law".

The text went ahead with the backing of 70 deputies, 10 votes against and two in white, in a secret ballot to be absent several opposition parties.

The initiative was presented by the ruling coalition "Together for the "Yes" - which brings together right independence and republican left- and anti-capitalist grouping by the candidacy of Popular Unity.

Both parliamentary nationalist groups argued that with its decision to "assume the mandate of the people expressed in the referendum of self-determination of the 1 October, declared illegal by the Constitutional Court at the request of the Spanish Government.

In this consultation, according to data from the Catalan self-government (Generalitat), a little more than 90 % of the almost 2.3 million voters (43 % of all registered voters) voted in favor of the proclamation of Catalonia in a sovereign State.

The project was discussed almost simultaneously to the holding of a full in the Spanish Senate, which is scheduled to vote this Friday the intervention of Catalonia, by virtue of the application of article 155 of the Constitution of this European country.

The imminent activation of this constitutional clause shall accord to the Head of the Spanish executive powers to dismiss the president catalan, Carles Puigdemont, and his entire cabinet.

To be endorsed by the Senate - where the ruling Popular of Rajoy has absolute majority - the measures include limiting functions of the Catalan Parliament, the control of the finances of the region, its police and the media. (PL) (Photo: File)
