Seoul, Feb 7.- The number of people infected with a stomach virus has already risen to 86 in Pyeongchang, where the Winter Olympics will start Friday, February 9, health authorities of the Republic of Korea informed.
The cases, which were only 32, were reported in the main venue of the sports event and in the coastal town of Gangneung, where there are facilities for ice competitions.
The sanitary report stated that the two Olympic villas in which the athletes are staying 'are still intact'.
Some 900 soldiers were displaced yesterday to replace private security guards after many of them suffered from vomiting and diarrhea.
The guards were transferred to hospitals and an infection by the highly contagious virus, which can spread through food or water, were detected.
To prevent further spread, the South Korean government reinforced hygienic inspections in restaurants and food facilities related to the sports event. (Prensa Latina)
