Kathmandu, Feb 12.- More than 32,000 Nepalese are infected with HIV/AIDS, a situation that intensifies the awareness campaign, especially among young people, two NGOs warned today.
According to the executive director of SURUWAT, Rajesh Didiya, about 13,000 patients are receiving antiretroviral treatment in 67 centers in this country.
Rabi Singh, representative of AIDS Health Care Foundation, stated that about 85 percent contracted the infection through sexual relations.
These data confirm the need to promote an awareness campaign, he stressed.
The figures coincide with those reported by the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS. (Prensa Latina)
