Sancti Spíritus, Feb 21.- The third edition of the La Guayabera 5.0 Technology Fair, a unique event of its kind in Cuba, begins today in this central city with proposals that merge technology and culture for a better society.
For four days, the contest proposes the exhibition of the work of companies mainly focused on developing technologies and communications, as well as concerts, lectures, exhibitions, theater and dance performances and tributes.
Among other activities, the program includes performances by singer Ivette Cepeda and multi instrumentalist Alain Pérez, as well as a tribute to the 'punto cubano' (Cuban country music), declared a UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in December.
The participation of specialists in culture and technological development for workshops, exchanges and lectures is also expected.
Deputy Communications Minister, Wilfredo González; Melchor Gil Morell, advisor to the Minister of Communications and founding rector of the University of Computer Science; and Fernando J. Jacomino, cultural director of La Jiribilla magazine, are also on the list.
The La Guayabera 5.0 Technology Fair will last until February 23 about 20 state entities and people in general to share more than a dozen spaces in the city, with its main venue at the Casa de la Guayabera (House of the Guayabera Shirt). (Prensa Latina)
