Havana, Feb 23.- The centenary of the founding of the Red Army and the Day of the defenders of the homeland was held today in Cuba with a political act and military ceremony.
In an event that took place in the Mausoleum of the Soviet internationalist Soldier, Brigadier General of the Cuban Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR), Alcibiades W. Perez recalled that from 1917 there was not a single victory in which the Red Army was not present.
Always - he added - linked to the leader Vladimir Ilich Lenin, who granted the right to the workers and peasants with weapons to defend their revolution.
Without this force, it would have been impossible to later overcome the nazi-fascist barbarism, emphasized Pérez in the ceremony presided over by the member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, First Deputy Minister and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, General of Army Corps, Alvaro Lopez Miera, Hero of the Republic.
With the experiences of the Red Army were forged the Soviet Armed Forces to deal with the danger of military bases around their borders.
He stressed that the strength gained by Russia at the military level is a vital element to avoid a confrontation that could threaten the human species.
The Brigadier General thanked the support of the former Union of Soviet Socialist Republics to the FAR, since we received weapons, advice and with the presence of technicians trained to our soldiers and officers.
Also, in their military academies were formed many scorecards, said Pérez at the event, where the floral offerings were deposited by the FAR, the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, the Embassy of Belarus and Russia.
For its part, the naval and aerial military attaché of the Russian embassy in Havana, Captain of Ship Valeryn Zubarev, expressed that on February 23 is a feast of manhood, military courage and fidelity to the interests of Russia.
We are obliged to remember the fallen during the civil war, in the struggle against fascism and other missions, and always keep their names in our hearts. (Text and photo: PL)
