Havana, Mar 2.- After three events, Cuban Yorgelis Rodriguez leads the pentathlon in the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships taking place in the English city of Birmingham.
Rodriguez, 23, who ranked fourth last year in the heptathlon of the World Championships held in this same nation, finished 10th in the 60 meters (8.57 seconds); 2nd in high jump (1.88m) and 5th in shot put (14.15m), according to the official IAAF website.
The young Cuban athlete so far amounts 2,886 points and is followed by British Katarina Johnson-Thompson (2,873), Austrian Ivona Dadic (2,872) and American Erica Bougard (2,836).
The two remaining pentathlon events (long jump and 800m) will be held in the evening session and Rodriguez will have very tough rivals as Johnson-Thompson was Prague 2015 European WC monarch, and Dadic was silver medalist at the same level in contest held in Belgrade 2017, while Bougard is the current American national champion.
