Damascus, Mar 7.- The Speaker of Syrian People's Assembly, Hammouda Sabbagh, highlighted the deep and solid historical ties that unite the peoples of Syria and Cuba, and advocated for further strengthening bilateral relations, government sources informed today.
According to a statement from the official website of Syrian parliament, after receiving Cuban First Deputy Foreign Minister Marcelino Medina González, and his delegation, the parliamentary leader said that these ties could be strengthened in all fields, including the parliament.
In his friendly dialogue with the Cuban representative, Sabbagh acknowledged the Caribbean country's support for the just cause of the Syrian people in their fight against international terrorism.
He also stated that Syria and Cuba are facing together the imperialist hegemony and the North American plans against the free peoples.
After referring that Syria is object of media disinformation campaigns by Western countries, the speaker of People's Assembly said those publications distort the facts and spread lies on Syria.
The government of our country has as a priority the confrontation and eradication of terrorism, promote national reconciliation, the return of displaced people to their cities and towns and progress in the current reconstruction process, he said.
Medina González reaffirmed his country's support for a political solution to the crisis in Syria through dialogue among the Syrians themselves, without foreign interference.
As part of his agenda, the Cuban representative, who arrived in Damascus yesterday on a two-day official visit, held a fraternal meeting with Deputy Foreign and Expatriates Minister, Faisal al-Mekdad.
Even with the planned meetings with senior Syrian officials, the Cuban deputy foreign minister arrived in this Syrian capital, after carrying out an official visit to Egypt. (Prensa Latina)
