Havana, Sep 7. - Cuba will be represented by pole vaulter Yarisley Silva, discus thrower Yaimé Pérez and triple jumper Cristian Nápoles in the 3rd IAAF Continental Cup hosted by Ostrava, Czech Republic from September 8th to 9th.
The three of them are part of the America’s team, made up by 80 athletes, including 29 Olympic and world medalists, according to IAAF official website.
Silva, London 2012 Olympic runner-up and Beijing 2015 world champion, was able to recover in time from an injury in her right leg and she will be present in the major tournament.
In the current season, she has a 4.80 meters record, achieved in the tenth stop of the Diamond League based in Monaco, last July 20th, and she also won the Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla, performance also reached by Nápoles and Pérez.
The latter, recent winner of the Diamond League final event which had its final in Brussels, Belgium, ranked second last Tuesday at the IAAF World Challenge Meeting held in the Croatian city of Zagreb.
Her best results in 2018 also include the title in the North, Central American and Caribbean Championship (NACAC) that hosted Toronto, Canada; whith her season best(SB) of 67.82 m, thus appearing third in the universal ranking.
Meanwhile, Napoles’SB is of 17.34 meters, record which with he won in Barranquilla and is also his personal best.
The IAAF Continental Cup, which takes place every four years, had its first edition in Split (Croatia) in 2010, with victory to the America team, and the second one in Marrakech (Morocco), in 2014, when the European squad won to.(ACN)
