Tropical Storm Isaac Hits Lesser Antilles with Rain and Wind

Havana, Sep 13. Tropical Storm Isaac is now coming closer to the Lesser Antilles with sustained maximum winds of 75 kilometers per hour and higher gusts, according to the Cuban Institute of Meteorology.

This morning its center was estimated 145 kilometers east northeast of Martinique Island with a central pressure of one thousand six hectopascal and heading close to the west at about 28 kilometers per hour.

Experts predict that in the next 12 to 24 hours the system will maintain a similar course and speed of translation, with little change in its intensity.

During this time, it is expected to cross the central region of the arch of the Lesser Antilles and to enter to the eastern Caribbean Sea with a gradual weakening.

The islands of Martinique, Dominica and Guadeloupe have issued tropical storm warnings while Antigua, Montserrat, the islands of St. Maarten, St. Kitts and Nevis, and Saba and St. Eustatius remain vigilant.

Meteorologists emphasize that the authorities of the rest of the Leeward Islands should be attentive to the progress of Isaac as they predict that this event will generate rain accumulations, some coastal floods with winds in the direction to land.

They also predict that the conditions generated may cause undertow conditions and marine currents threatening to life, so it is essential to maintain information on this hydro meteorological event. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
