NASA Mission to the Sun Sends First Images

Washington, Sep 20. - After a month in orbit, NASA's Parker Solar Probe sent the first images of its approach to the sun, as proof of the reliability of its instruments, NASA highlights today.

The probe, which performs its mission to the Sun, made initial observations and sent data from each of its four instrument groups.

These first images are intended to gather measurements of what happens in the solar wind closer to the Earth, the US space agency said in a statement.

In the text, Nour Raouafi, main scientist of the project, points out that all the instruments produced data. These not only serve for calibration, but also capture flashes of what we expect to measure near the Sun to solve the mysteries of the solar atmosphere: the corona.

According to forecasts, the first approach of the probe to the Sun will be in November.

After three failed attempts, NASA managed to launch the spacecraft Parker last August 12th, whose main objective is to get as close as possible to the Sun. It will reach the closest point of the star in 2025. (Taken from Prensa Latina)
