Matanza’s people thank Raúl and Díaz-Canel’s support in the restoration of their city



Matanzas, Oct 13. -Matanzas’s people recognized the Army General Raúl Castro, first Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, and Miguel Díaz-Canel, president of the Councils of State and Ministers, for the accompaniment and support in the restoration of the city, which approaches to 325 years.

The solemn assembly of the event was attended by Esteban Lazo Hernández, member of the Political Bureau and President of the Cuban parliament; Víctor Gaute and Omar Ruiz Martín, members of the secretariat of the Central Committee of the Party; among other leaders.
 

The solemn assembly of the Popular Power, led by Yosiel Landín Gamazo, its president, also thanked the collaboration, unveiling and commitment of other personalities of the country throughout the process of resuscitation of the first modern city of Cuba.

José Ramón Machado Ventura, second Secretary of the Party;  Esteban Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of the Popular Power; Eusebio Leal, historian of the city of Havana, Alicia García Santana, architect and writer; as well as Ercilio Vento Canosa and Leonel Pérez Orozco, historian and curator of Matanzas, respectively, were entertained.

Dr. Vento Canosa reviewed the main moments in the history of San Carlos and San Severino de Matanzas, its heritage, cultural and natural values and reaffirmed that today the city looks beautiful and the main challenge of the people of Matanzas is to preserve it for the future.

An emotional message was sent to the people of Matanzas by Eusebio Leal, transmitted in audio at the Teatro Sauto, National monument, where he expressed his feeling and admiration for the birthplace of José Jacinto Milanés, Emilia Teurbe Tolón, embroiderer of the Cuban flag, even by the militiamen who left this locality, in April 1961, to beat imperialism with their first defeat in America.
