Camaguey, Feb 14.- La Vaquita Cheese Factory, located in the Cuban central province of Camaguey, some 550 kilometers east of Havana, produced 1700 tons of cheese in 2018, a full 50 percent spike over plan.
Karel Zayas Cordoví, director of this Base Business Unit (UEB) belonging to the Camagüey Dairy Company, told ACN that the purpose was to reach 1,102.8 t of cheese this year, and it could be surpassed due to the existence of a stable support in the volumes of milk received throughout 2018.
The executive explained that in this way they obtained more than one million 563 thousand cuc, mainly for the sale of fresh Creole cheese to hotels in the tourism sector in the territory, several dairy complexes in the country, retail stores, and the Varadero marketing company.
To these is added butter in 115 gram bar format, which although not produced in the factory itself, it is packaged and marketed under that brand.
With more than 70 years of existence, the La Vaquita Cheese Factory underwent a major repair in 2016 and 2017, which allowed it to have higher production levels.
In addition, at the beginning of 2018 it received a pasteurizer, a skimmer and a homogenizer, new Russian technology equipment that enabled it to increase the quality in the processing of the raw material and consequently increase the safety of the food produced there. (ACN)
