Havana, Cuba, Feb 24.- PhD. Antonio Becali, President of the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER by its Spanish acronym), was appointed vice-chairman of the Ibero-American Sports Council (CID by its Spanish acronym), which he considered a recognition to his country and the work of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.
«It´s an honor to represent #Cuba», he tweeted from Punta del Este, Uruguay, headquarters of the 25th General Assembly of that organization.
Responsible for coordinating the work of the North, Central America and the Caribbean region together with an expert from Mexico, Becali is the first Cuban in the CID board, which ratified Uruguayan Fernando Caceres as its president.
The executive of CID also named as its 1st Vice-president to Costa Rican Alba Quesada Rodriguez, and Spanish Maria Jose Rianda as Executive Secretary.
The meeting in Punta del Este included other events such as the Central American and Caribbean Sports Council (CONCECADE), where Cuba supported the right of Venezuela to host the Central American and Caribbean School Sports Games agreed from November 22nd to December 1st, this year.
It was also on session the assembly of the American Sports Council (CADE), which appointed Ecuadorian sports minister, Andrea Sotomayor, as its president. (ACN)
