Biofrábrica workers in Camagüey committed to food sustainability

Camagüey, Sept. 19 - Workers from the Biofrábrica company, producer and marketer of seeds, are committed to producing pests and diseases-free plants in order to diversify local agriculture.

According to Ms.C Jakelin Carmenates Basulto, director of the company for almost 10 years, the staff´s scientific work aims at achieving certified seeds and cultures that are resistant to climate change.

In that endeavor, the in vitro crop laboratory produces plantain clones, with different varieties, which have a high genetic potential and can be seized both by locals and people from the whole country.

Furthermore, Camagüey´s Biofrábrica produces papaya, guava, tomato and pepper plants and ornamental plants that are marketed in the very company in order to partially fund production.

The Ministry of Agriculture honored the company´s results by providing it with tech and reagents to guarantee better crop yield in favor of food sustainability and independence.

With a staff of about 50 workers, most of them with high expertise, Biofrábrica Camagüey´s quality is endorsed by provincial and national awards in scientific events.   (Text, photos: Eric Pacheco Fandiño/ Radio Cadena Agramonte)
