Havana, Oct. 12.- The Nicolás Guillén Foundation will present the book Sóngoro Cosongo con Motivos de Son, a compilation of both essential works by the Cuban National Poet, during the 29th International Book Fair, organizers reported.
The text responds to Guillén´s will to keep both works together; while honoring African legacy and national identity defended by him in his vast work and seeks to capture the young public.
The publication will grant the National Poet the place he deserves in the Cuban Culture panorama, said Denia García Ronda, academic director of the institution that promotes and protects the work of the Cuban intellectual.
Published almost nine decades ago, Motivos de Son represented a turning point in the work of the Cuban author as an expression of his fight against racial prejudices and a symbol of a nation marked by miscegenation.
On the other hand, Sóngoro Cosongo included the well-known poems that stood out for a break and morphological deformation of the words and, in turn, assumed the rhythm of the son, recognized musical and dance genre in the Caribbean island.
Considered the best exponent of mulatto poetry in Cuba, Guillén cultivated journalism and his work has been translated into several languages. Among their titles stand out El son entero, La paloma de vuelo popular, Elegía a Jesús Menéndez and Balada de los dos abuelos. (Text and photo: PL)
