Havana, Dec 6 - Authorities of the University of Havana announced today the organization of the V International Convention on Tourism Studies, CietCuba 2020, to be held from May 18 through May 31 next year at the Varadero resort.
A report by this institution added that the motto of the meeting is 'Tourism sustainability, competitiveness, and innovation,' and corresponds to the rise of the travel industry in this country.
The meeting is convened by the Faculty of Tourism of the University of Havana for 2020 in Varadero, located about 140 km east of the capital.
The announcement points out that conventions took place in 2010, 2012, 2016, and 2018, and this fifth edition will include relevant topics, such as information technologies (ICTs), tourism innovation, and the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the event.
The Convention will include studies and research on tourism-related topics such as gastronomy.
CietCuba 2020 will include the VIII International Workshop on Higher Education Challenges in Light of Tourism Development, and the V International Symposium of Studies on Tourism and Travel.
Other programmed events are the V International Symposium of Studies on Hospitality Bodies, the I Workshop on ICTs and Innovation in Tourism, as well as the I International Meeting of Tourism Students.
The planned presentations will deal with matters including Tourism and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; Tourism Development in the Geographical Space; Cultural Heritage as a Tourism Resource; and the Economic and Accounting Analysis of Tourism Enterprises.
The organizing committee also will discuss topics such as New Forms of Tourism; Design of Tourism Products; and New ICTs in Travel Marketing.
Cuba receives more than 4 million tourists annually, and there are around 70,000 rooms in more than 300 hotels across the country, and an average 2,000 rooms in private hostels and homes. (PL)
