Tokyo, March 31.- The president of the organizing committee of the Tokyo Olympic Games, Yoshiro Mori , announced the new date of the multi-sport event, which will see action from July 23 to August 8, 2021.
Mori announced the news at a press conference, shortly after speaking by telephone with the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach.
The new date gives enough time for the preparation of the athletes and for the recovery of the world in general, which is currently suffering from the pandemic of the new coronavirus.
Precisely, the attacks of this pathogen throughout the planet were the cause of the postponement of the Games, initially scheduled from July 24 to August 9, 2020.
Due to the situation of the new coronavirus, we also believed that it was better for the Games to be in the summer, explained Mori , who spoke of the need to allow reasonable time to eradicate the pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Paralympic Games were scheduled from August 24 to September 5, 2021. (Text and photo: PL)
