Final Statement of the NAM Summit in response to Covid-19

We, the Heads of State and Government, under the slogan "United against the Covid-19 pandemic" on May 4, 2020, at the initiative of Mr. IlhamAliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President of the Non-Aligned Movement, in order to effectively contribute to global efforts to cope with the unprecedented effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,

 1.- We reiterate our firm commitment to the purposes, principles and provisions of the United Nations Charter and the founding documents of the NAM,

 2.- We welcome the adoption of resolution of the United Nations General Assembly A / RES / 74/270, entitled "World solidarity to fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19)", and resolution A / RES / 74/274, entitled "International cooperation to guarantee global access to medicines, vaccines and medical equipment to deal with Covid-19",

3.- We express full support for the plans and initiatives of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to combat the Covid-19 pandemic,

 4.- We recall the Communiqués of the Coordination Bureau of the Non-Aligned Movement about the "Covid-19 pandemic", of March 25, 2020, and about "support for the World Health Organization (WHO ) and its Director General ", from April 9, 2020,

 5.- We express deep concern about the rapid spread of Covid-19, which represents an enormous challenge for humanity and requires a global response based on unity, solidarity and renewed multilateral cooperation,

 6.- We recognize the unprecedented effects of the pandemic, including the serious impact on societies and economies, as well as world travel and trade, and the devastating effects on people's livelihoods,

 7.- We also recognize that the poorest and most vulnerable are the hardest hit by the pandemic and that the impact of the crisis will set back the achievements made with so much effort in development matters and will hinder progress towards the achievement of the Goals. of Sustainable Development,

 8.- We reiterate our support for multilateralism with the United Nations at its center, and we recognize that the preservation and strengthening of the values ​​of multilateralism and international cooperation, which are the bases of the Charter of the United Nations and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, are essential to promote and support the three pillars of the United Nations: peace and security, development and human rights,

 9.- We express full support to WHO and its managers, while recognizing the fundamental role they are playing and the advice they are currently providing on the front lines, particularly in the provision of advice, training, and equipment provision. and the provision of concrete services to save lives, in order to guarantee the effective response of the international community to the increasing challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, which is the greatest human crisis and health emergency of our time,

10.- We urge the Member States of the United Nations to increase their cooperation at the national, regional and international levels to confront and combat this scourge,

11.- We emphasize that in the face of this type of global emergency, the spirit of solidarity must be at the center of our efforts and requires a high level of ethical and humanistic commitment, in which solidarity and disinterested cooperation prevail in order to provide peoples in need medicines, medical equipment and supplies, food, exchange of expertise and good practice,

12.- We express our strong condemnation of the promulgation and application of unilateral coercive measures against the Member States of the Movement, which are applied in violation of the Charter of the United Nations and International Law, we also express our support, in accordance with the law international, to the States affected by these measures, and urge the international community to adopt urgent and effective measures to eliminate the use of such measures, which are incompatible with the principles of international law or the Charter of the United Nations, with a view to ensure the effectiveness of national responses to the Covid-19 pandemic.

13.- We call to intensify international cooperation to contain, mitigate and defeat the pandemic, through the exchange of information, scientific knowledge and best practices and the application of the relevant guidelines recommended by the WHO,

14.- We stress the need for coordinated efforts to prevent the negative effects of the pandemic on the economies of the Member States,

15.- We express our deepest condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones as a result of Covid-19 and express solidarity with all those who are currently fighting and recovering from Covid-19,

16.- We recognize the enormous contribution and dedication of medical personnel and health service providers and we express our gratitude in this humanitarian emergency,

17.- We decided to create the Task Force of the Non-Aligned Movement to develop a database that includes the basic humanitarian and medical needs and requirements of the NAM Member States, which will be presented by the Presidency to all donor countries, international humanitarian organizations, transnational private entities that carry out projects of social responsibility and others of possible support and assistance,

18.- We express our gratitude to the Hon. Mr. IlhamAliyev, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and President of the Non-Aligned Movement, for launching and hosting this timely and valuable meeting.
