Geneva, May 27 .- America is confirmed as the epicenter of the Covid-19 pandemic by hosting the two countries with the most cases in the world: the United States and Brazil, according to official statistics from the World Health Organization (WHO) .
The South American giant surpassed Russia on Tuesday in the number of infected people placing second internationally, with more than 363,000 patients.
The North American nation has been for weeks as the most affected territory in the world, with more than 1.6 million confirmed cases.
In both nations, governments are the target of criticism for the deficiencies in the management of the health crisis and for minimizing the gravity of the situation, despite the extremely high numbers of sick and fatal victims.
In the United States, the deceased amount to more than 96,000 (first world position) and in Brazil to more than 22,000 (sixth world position).
On the other hand, the WHO insisted on the alert about the panorama in Africa, which is still below the peak of infections with Covid-19, said the director of emergency operations of the international entity, Michel Yao, to the Russian agency Sputnik.
According to the specialist, the countries that concentrate the majority of cases are South Africa, Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, but despite the increases observed, none has reached its peak.(Text and Photo: PL)
