Havana, Aug 5.- Cuban experts from the Pedro Kourí Institute of Tropical Medicine (IPK) and Finlay from this capital participate today in the virtual seminar "'Accelerating access to the Covid-19 vaccine in Latin America and the Caribbean "
The head of the IPK Research, Diagnosis and Reference Center, María Guadalupe, will speak on the Cuban experience against the pandemic.
The event is organized by the United Kingdom and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), to facilitate access to vaccines, therapies and diagnoses.
In Cuba, biotechnologists are searching for a specific drug against the Coronavirus, based on previous experiences with other formulas.
National institutions such as the IPK, the Finlay Vaccine Institute and the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology work together on various strategies to obtain candidates based on previous platforms such as those used against hepatitis B and pentavalent, which includes antigens against five different diseases.
Several research centers, companies and the global scientific community are currently working to obtain a safe and effective vaccine that protects against SARS-CoV-2, which causes Covid-19. (Text and photo: PL)
