Havana, Aug 11.- President Miguel Díaz-Canel today expressed his certainty that BioCubaFarma scientists will achieve a vaccine against Covid-19.
In his Twitter account, the president reported that researchers from the Group of Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries of Cuba (BioCubaFarma) are advancing in the search for a preparation to control the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.
The President of the Group, Eduardo Martínez, announced it the day before in a checking session of the projects led by the Finlay Institute, an entity with experience in the research, development and production of vaccines. “Achieving an effective vaccine against Covid-19 is a priority for our entire science and innovation system at BioCubaFarma. Today we see at the Finlay Institute how solid and accelerated progress has been made in this project, ”Martínez wrote on his Twitter account.
In another message, the researcher announced that they will complete each step required for a project of this type. Cuba has been experiencing an outbreak of the disease since the end of July, which led to the reinforcement of measures of social isolation in Havana and its neighboring province of Artemisa. Since the first cases were reported last March, 3,393 people have fallen ill on the island, and 88 of them have died. Of the total, 2,472 patients have already been recovered. (Text and photo: PL)
