Havana, Aug 13 - Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel said today that the best tribute to the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, is to control the outbreaks of the Covid-19 pandemic.
"The best tribute to his memory, to the monumental human work that he bequeathed us, would be to overcome the rebound with discipline and care," remarked the head of state on his Twitter account.
On the 94th anniversary of his birth, the president stressed that the successes that led the country to control the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus are due to the work of Fidel Castro.
Simce the first cases of Covid-19 were reported on the island last March, 3,100 people have been infected. Of these, 88 died.
Through the health services and the social isolation measures applied, the ailment was controlled until the end of July, when outbreaks occurred, mainly in Havana and the neighboring province of Artemisa.
“Congratulations Cuba, you are going around the world saving lives and defeating hatred. At 94, Fidel lives among us, in the noble work of his people, "wrote the dignitary in another tweet.
Díaz-Canel, who considers that his government (since April 2018) is a continuity of those of Fidel Castro Castro and Raúl Castro, used the hashtags FidelPorSiempre, SomosCuba and SomosContinuidad.
In social networks ministers, intellectuals and personalities - both within the island and abroad - recalled their experiences and the imprint of the leader of the revolutionary. (Text and photo: PL)
