Cuba relentlessly in the battle against Covid-19

Havana, Sep 24.- 5, 270 people had been diagnosed with Covid-19 in Cuba until last September 22, a day in which 48 new positive cases were reported, 29 of them in Havana and 11 corresponding to Blind from Ávila, a province that continues to show a high spread of the disease throughout its territory.

At the close of the working day this Wednesday, during the meeting of the Temporary Group for the prevention and control of the new coronavirus that is headed daily by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz- Canel Bermúdez, and the Vice President of the Republic, Salvador Valdés Mesa , and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, precisely from that central province, Governor Tomás Alexis Martín Venegas reported that 187 infected people residing in the territory were admitted to health institutions in Avilanian and Camagüey.

With five local transmission events and 22 active focus controls, Ciego de Ávila continues to show the highest incidence rate per 100,000 inhabitants of Cuba in the past two weeks, a period in which 266 patients have been confirmed there. Unfortunately, it has also been in this province where the greatest number of people have died in recent days and several patients are reported in critical or serious condition.

Faced with the complex situation that manifests itself in the territory, last Tuesday night a work team from the Ministry of Public Health, headed by the Ministry of Public Health, joined the work carried out by the authorities of the province to stop the impact of the disease. Head of the sector, José Ángel Portal Miranda, who through videoconference assured the Temporary Group that a set of measures have been reinforced with the aim of quickly isolating all contacts, as well as reducing the number of patients and serious and critical cases, which will prevent the number of deaths from the virus from increasing.

In general, he said, these are the same measures that we have been proposing in the country during these months of confrontation with the epidemic and that we are now reinforcing in Ciego de Ávila with work teams in all its municipalities, reviewing in detail the local transmission events and controls of active sources to be able to act with opportunity in each one of them.

From Matanzas, a province that reported six cases this Wednesday, all confirmed patient contacts associated with the local transmission event opened in the construction works of tourism, in the municipality of Cárdenas, Governor Mario Sabines Lorenzo explained that the taking of PCR samples to builders of all contingents and progress is made in the study of people in communities where a high number of them reside.

As he updated, at the time of the meeting the number of people to study had already risen to more than 4,400, most of them in the municipalities of Cárdenas and Matanzas, as well as about 200 in those of Colón, Jovellanos and Jagüey Grande.

As part of the increase in the investigation in the different territories, 26 suspects had been admitted this Wednesday, three of them contacts of positive patients, he said.

Regarding the other event of local transmission that remains active in the community of Santa Marta, also in Cárdenas, Sabines Lorenzo said that there is a trend to control the disease while the last case diagnosed was on September 7.

In a particular way about Havana, where according to the vice minister of Public Health, Regla Angulo Pardo, this Wednesday the event of local transmission of Mantilla, in the municipality of Arroyo Naranjo, was concluded, it was learned that of the 29 Cases reported in the past day, 25 were contacts and in four the source of infection could not be specified when they were diagnosed.

Eight of these people, said Governor Reinaldo García Zapata, were detected from the investigations of risk groups, mainly in the municipality of Diez de Octubre, where intense actions are being carried out to search for suspects. This is a work that we will continue to develop, as it is a way of anticipating the problem and adopting measures so that any situation that may arise does not become an event.

During the session, the governors of Artemisa and Sancti Spíritus also gave an account, territories where the ways of doing things point to disease control and ratify the importance of rigorously complying, in all scenarios, with each of the measures that are have designed in the country to combat the epidemic.
