Camagüey, Sep 24.- Food production is an imperative for the country today, and although the supply does not exceed the demand, there are groups that show what can be achieved, especially with the contribution of young people.
This is the case of the Terso Cattle Commercialization Base Business Unit, of Camagüey, belonging to the Maraguán Cattle Company, with the main task of slaughtering small and large cattle for sale with various destinations, including the foreign exchange market, to the own workers and in a retail way.
Yondris Álvarez Botey, director of the entity, explained that, in accordance with the indications of the Provincial Defense Council, they have distributed some lines such as masses of croquettes and hamburgers and sausages in certain establishments, aware of the importance of producing in these difficult times.
Other strategies have allowed them to reduce expenses and substitute imports, such as the production of food for the company's own animals and marketing to third parties, something that had not previously been done, since the products for the manufacture of feed were sold to cooperatives.
Beyond food, the industry has incorporated new productions, because from the bait of the boning, specifically with 250 kilograms and other raw materials such as caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), they make more than 800 bars of soap for washing.
But not everything is favorable or easy, since the economic impact of Covid-19 has also limited raw materials, to which is added the obsolete equipment with which they work.
Such challenges do not prevent the fulfillment of the state order, and they look for alternatives such as the substitution of wheat flour for rice, without affecting the quality of the product. (Text and photos: Juan Mendoza Medina / Radio Cadena Agramonte)
