Havana, Oct 13.- The popular Los Van Van orchestra will be the protagonist today of the series of online concerts promoted by the Cuban Institute of Music (ICM) to share with the world the best of the island's culture.
Founded by the instrumentalist, composer and arranger Juan Formell (1942-2014), the group has become one of the main exponents of so-called popular dance music throughout its five decades on stage.
The group's intense and productive career has been recognized with important awards, including a Latin Grammy and several Cubadisco awards.
The Los Van Van concert is set for 4:30 p.m. local time, and will be broadcast by the Key Channel of Cuban television, the Radio Progreso station and the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Culture and the ICM, as well as links to a hundred pages on Facebook.
Identified with the tags #EstamosContigo # MúsicosPorCuba, the online presentations of national artists is a successful initiative of Cuban cultural institutions in their quest to make visible and share the artistic creation of the island. (Text and photo: PL)
