Havana, Oct 14.- On the occasion of the Day for Cuban Culture Day, the National Lyric Theater announced the show Gala for Life, which reveres the legacy of the composers Gonzalo Roig, Ernesto Lecuona and Rodrigo Prats.
The recital, scheduled for October 17 and 18, will pay tribute to the island's medical staff and members of the international contingent Henry Reeve, candidate for the Nobel Peace Prize, whose humanist work faces the Covid-19 pandemic in more of 30 nations of the world.
The program is made up of a selection of emblematic works in the repertoire of the respectable institution, including Cecilia Valdés, María La O and Amalia Batista, as well as other arias from the renowned operas Turandot, Rigoletto, Tosca, Nabucco and Madame Butterfly.
The performances, which will take place in the García Lorca hall of the Gran Teatro Alicia Alonso, will feature soloists from the Lírico Nacional and the company choir, together with the Symphonic Orchestra, under the general direction of the maestro Yhovani Duarte.
In Cuba, the Culture Day commemorates the beginning of the struggles for independence and is celebrated throughout the Caribbean nation. (Text and photo: PL)
