Bolivian Socialism Movement won 55% of votes

La Paz, Oct 23.- The presidential binomial of the Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) already has 55% of the votes in its favor after counting 98.89% of the minutes of the elections last Sunday.

This is an overwhelming victory in the first round, leaving Carlos Mesa, from Comunidad Ciudadana, with 28.90% and Fernando Camacho, from Creemos, with just 14.02% of the vote.

One year after the installation of a de facto government, the MAS thus regains power from the hand of the people who came out en masse and peacefully to exercise their right to vote.

According to the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), 88.39 percent of the seven million 732 thousand 926 qualified voters participated in this civic exercise, according to the records scrutinized up to that moment.

The MAS is the political force with the most members, the best structured, and it triumphs in these elections resoundingly.

Last night the TSE announced that today it will present the official results of the elections at 18:00 (local time) and will do so in the Illimani auditorium of the Chuquiago Marka Fairgrounds, in this city. (Text and photo: PL)
