Camagüey, Oct 27.- The Rolando Escardó Creation Scholarship in its first edition, convened by the Camagüey branch of Literature of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), was awarded to the poet Moisés Mayán Fernández, from the province of Holguín, as reported by Jorge Santos Caballero, member of the organizing committee of the event.
43 writers from 14 provinces participated in the contest, which this year was convened in the genre of poetry, for authors residing in Cuba, which constitutes a great response, Santos Caballero pointed out.
The intellectual from Camagüey highlighted the quality of the works presented and the performance of the jury, chaired by the prestigious poet Roberto Manzano, and who also decided to award a mention to the creator Yoel Herrera Acosta, who lives in the province of Matanzas.
Jorge Santos Caballero expressed his delight at the broad participation of poets from all over the country, in which it also constitutes a tribute to the main promoter of what UNEAC is today: Rolando Escardó. Precisely, last October 16 marked 60 years of his death in a car accident, while he was organizing the First National Meeting of Poets, which was later held in the city of Camagüey.
The Camagüey Literature subsidiary undertakes to deliver the winning proposal to Editorial Ácana for its possible inclusion in the editorial plan, without implying a commitment to publication by both institutions. The organizing committee announced that each year it will convene in a different genre. (Lázaro David Najarro Pujol / Radio Cadena Agramonte) (Photo: File)
