Hemodialysis service in Florida, Camagüey, continues regardless of blockade impact

Florida, Camagüey, Oct 30.- The intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government to Cuba does not prevent the people from having health services as sensitive as the one that 44 hemodialysis patients receive at the Pediatric Hospital Leopoldo Rey Sampayo, in the Camagüey municipality of Florida.

Limited in their quality of life due to end-stage chronic kidney failure, those who come there in search of relief for their painful illness have, free of charge, a battery of six artificial kidneys and a professional group that works 24 hours a day.

Doctors, nurses, technicians and qualified workers have in this center the mission of offering quality care in the midst of numerous restrictions caused by the US persecution of Cuban trade, which increases the suffering of the sick and makes the purchase of supplies and materials more expensive. such as dialyzers, catheters and more modern technologies.

However, not even the Covid-19 pandemic has prevented the active permanence of the hemodialysis service of the municipality of Florida, where patients from the territory are treated, and those of the neighboring municipalities of Esmeralda and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes. (Text and audio: Pedro Pablo Sáez / Radio Florida) (Photo: Profile on Fb.
