Cuba and Belarus to Expand Information Exchanges

Havana, Cuba, Feb 26.- Alfredo Nieves, Cuba’s ambassador to Belarus, and Dmitri Zhuk, general director of the Belta news agency, met on Friday in Minsk to analyze the possibility of expanding exchanges between the media of the two countries.

During the meeting, the Byelorussian executive agreed with Nieves that the two nations have the same news approach, always in defense of their peoples and against information monopolies.

The ambassador referred to the possibilities of a more extensive coverage on events in Latin America, through the search of new ways of cooperation with the Prensa Latina news agency (PL), with which Belta signed a cooperation agreement in 2006, according to information provided by the Cuban Foreign Ministry.

Representatives of the Latin American news agency referred to the opportunity of cooperating in the sphere of multimedia.

Zhuk ratified the interest of boosting that cooperation to spread information and images on  Latin America, in a closer look at the continent’s realities, PL reported.

He underlined that the work carried out by the Belta Web site in Spanish language, with scarcely one year of existence, responds to Byelorussia’s interest in the Latin American region.

He added that this is the fourth service offered by the agency, after Russian, English and German.
During a tour of Belta’s Spanish editorial department, Nieves expressed his appreciation for the new service and for the opportunity to spread Cuban and Latin American issues by way of that media outlet. (acn).
