Havana, Cuba, Apr 21.- Eglys Cruz and Leuris Pupo continue their preparation in Havana to represent Cuba at the Rifle and Pistol World Cup of the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), scheduled for Fort Benning, in the United States, on May 16-22.
Cruz, Olympic bronze medalist of the 50 m Rifle 3 Positions Women event in Beijing 2008, is Cuba’s top medal hopeful. She was the first Cuban representative to secure a spot in the London 2012 Olympic Games and she is also expected to compete in the 10m Air Rifle Women event.
Pupo, Pan American champion in the 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Men event in Rio de Janeiro 2007, has also secured his ticket for the Olympic Games in 2012 and he is a strong candidate to make the podium now.
Rafael Guerra, the national commissioner of the Cuban Shooting Sport Federation, told ACN that the Cubans representatives will travel to the United States on May 14, and that this contest will also serve as preparation for their participation in the Pan American Games of Guadalajara, Mexico, in October 2011.
