Libraries are definitively repositories of the wisdom and collective memory, spaces for the reading and knowledge, where the human being has made wonders, beyond what is shown.
The hands of those who have the great responsibility to organize and categorize the many thousands texts are behind those huge bookshelf packed with books.

These hands are those of a librarian, par excellence intelligent, organized, methodical, diligent, wise. His work has been decisive for centuries in facilitating the society an access to knowledge.

In this news age of information and communication, the challenges posed by the ICT are ginormous, some people defend the idea that technological development condemn the traditional libraries to ostracism.

It is certain that with the emergence of the Internet, with a simple keystroke a person can obtain almost everything he needs, because the principles and functions that originated the libraries are reproduced by the network of networks, along with the concomitant technological adjustments.

In fact, many libraries render their services in digital form through the world wide web, because what we are trying is to make the best use of the scientific development in order to universalize knowledge.

Besides, the pleasure of touching and reading a good book will never be replaced by anything. As it is also irreplaceable the important role played by a librarian - who celebrate their day on a date like today in Cuba – and are faithful guardians of the bibliographical heritage of all nations.
