Camagüey Implements Strategies to Shoot Up Plantain Cultivation

Camagüey, Jul 24.- Taking full advantage of July, August and September for increasing the plantain cultivation, is one of the strategies that the agriculture in Camaguey encourages in those fields assigned to the cultivation of root vegetable and other farm produces.

Even when in the first half of the year nearly 14 000 hectares of diverse cultivations were planted, in regard to the edible corms and other farm produces like plantain, only 72 percent of the plan was achieved.

The farmers in Camagüey intend to recover the Burro CEMSA plantain and work on new sowing designs in order to make a better usage of the land.

In addition, it is worth mentioning the favourable sowing of sweet potato which covers a surface of over 1 000 hectares, while they are also working on recovering the areas for the cultivation of the arrowleaf elephant’s ear, mainly around the city of Camagüey.
