Fidel Castro: Washington Oppresses and Plunders the Globalized World

Havana, Cuba, Oct 27.- In the third part of a series of articles titled “NATO´S Genocidal Role”, titled “Fidel Castro said that the United States oppresses and plunders the world by using its political, economic, technical and military power. Fidel focused on the US-led aggression of Libya and the recent debate at the UN on the Cuban resolution demanding the lifting of the US blockade of Cuba.

In his article, the Cuban Revolution leader recalls main ideas from his reflections published on February 23 under the title “The Cynical Danse Macabre,”in which he analyzed the middle east context and the developments unfolding around Libya, as well as his thoughts about the consequences of a possible and direct aggression on Libya by NATO and its allies.

“They are going to attempt to wrest the most benefits from the regrettable events in Libya.  Nobody can know at this moment what is happening over there. All the figures and versions, even the most implausible ones, have been spread by the empire via the mass media, sowing chaos and misinformation...,” Fidel recalls in his reflections.

“It is obvious that inside Libya a civil war is brewing.  Why and how did this happen?  Who will pay the consequences? He asked on that occasion and cited statements by different officials and leaders.”

“The empire’s mass media has prepared the terrain for action. There would be nothing strange about a military intervention in Libya; besides, with that, Europe would guarantee almost two million barrels of light oil per day, unless before that, the events would put an end to the leadership or the life of Gaddafi.”

In today´s reflections, Fidel Castro says that while he meditated over those facts, the UN General Assembly began debating about the “Necessity of Ending the Economic, Commercial and Financial Blockade Imposed by the United States of America against Cuba,” which the overwhelming majority of UN nations have been demanding for 20 years now.

The numerous, fundamental and fair analyses –which for US administrations were but rhetorical exercise—revealed, as never before, the political and moral weakness of the most powerful empire ever, whose oligarchic and unquenchable thirst for power and richness have submitted all inhabitants on the planet, including the US people.

Fidel stressed that the United States oppresses and plunders the globalized world with its political, economic, technological and military power, and this truth—he said—was increasingly obvious during the honest and courageous debates held over the past 20 years at the UN with the support of countries that are expected to express the will of the overwhelming majority of the inhabitants of the planet.

Fidel recalled different statements by countries and organizations that took part at the debate. And he also said that the statement given by the US representative was just to explain what cannot be explained. “I felt pity for him; that was the role he was assigned to play.”

Finally, Fidel Castro recalls the vote in which Libya and Sweden were absent; the Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau abstained from voting the Cuban resolution and the United States and Israel voted against.  When calculating the total population of the countries that abstained, voted against or were absent, the figure reaches 4.8 percent (336 948 000) of the world population, which this month increases to 7 billion inhabitants, Fidel concluded and announced part four of this series of reflections for Friday.
