In this moment Cuba has become a big classroom, a classroom in which students begin to forge their dreams, to consolidate their future; a classroom in which the Revolution will be present in hearts and minds. In these classrooms, the current generations also know that they are lucky and sure.
Each September our island lives one of its most beautiful moments; a new school year begins and in order to guarantee its success, the whole country is engaged. Today this is a hot topic. The Cuban family talks about it all the time and does all that could be humanly possible so that everything goes fine.
In 1959, during the first National Congress of Rural Education Fidel Castro said: “None of the measures adopted by the Revolutionary government will go against the principles of teaching, and the government will never take a measure to either affect the teaching or the teachers.” And undoubtedly the transformations that will be implemented from this moment on in the island's educational system aim to strengthen the quality of the education in our country, a tangible proof also in Camaguey. Here over 800 schools are opening their doors to welcome students from all levels.
In every nook and cranny of Cuba, the start of the school year is an event that transforms homes and touches the people’s sensitivities. None wants to miss this party; that’s why students, parents and teachers attend early in a costume of joy and commitment.
September 1st might be a day like any other in some other point of the world. But in Cuba, it is a day of new joys, a day of another happy dawn. (Tay Toscano Jerez/Translated by Gualveris Rosales Sánchez/Radio Cadena Agramonte)
