Havana, Cuba, May 23.- The Cuban Domadores team won its five fights at the Havana Sports City Coliseum against the Uzbek Tigers to reach the semifinals of the Seventh World Series of Boxing (WSB)
Cuba had to win at least 4 of the bouts to get to the next round since it had lost 2-3 in the previous match, and did it in a convincing way, with all boxers winning by unanimous decision
In the first combat, Yosbany Veitia in the 52 kilogram division led the actions for the first 4 rounds till the referee had to stop the fight because the Cuban was bleeding profusely through two cuts in his face after his Uzbek rival butt headed him twice. Since Veitia was leading in the judges´ cards he was declared victor.
Three time world champion in the light weight division Lazaro Alvarez entered the ring in superb shape and beat easily his rival Elnur Abduraimov.
The match tying win for the Cubans came in the third bout when the welterweight London Olympic champion Rosniel Iglesias took revenge from his loss in Rio Olympics against Shakhram Giyasov.
This time Iglesias started aggressively his quest for the victory and in the first three rounds he took a much-needed lead. In the last two rounds he slowed down but it was already enough to secure the win.
Rio Olympic champion Julio Cesar la Cruz faced the toughest Uzbek opponent, Bektemir Melikuziev, but based on his incredibly fast footwork and precise hitting, it was just a matter of time for him to claim the victory.
Super Heavyweight José Ángel Larduet clinched teh sweep by beating easily his opponent Bakhodir Jalolov. (ACN)
