Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos, homes to quarterfinals of the 60th SNB

Havana, Jan 22.- The National Baseball Directorate announced that the provinces of Sancti Spíritus and Cienfuegos will be the headquarters of the "bubbles" stipulated to face the quarterfinal phase of the 60th Series, scheduled to start the next Tuesday 26.

At the José Antonio Huelga stadium, the Granma-Industriales matches and the exponent monarch Matanzas will be played against Cienfuegos, while the southern park 5 de Septiembre will host the actions of the Sancti Spíritus-Pinar del Río and Las Tunas-Santiago de Cuba duels.

The most important thing is to defend the health of athletes, coaches and all personnel involved in the development of our Series. That is why we will concentrate the eight teams with the respective health protocols to avoid contagion of Covid-19, for which we will reinforce all hygienic measures, National Commissioner Ernesto Reinoso told the press.

The manager also commented that individual responsibility is vital in this atypical and complicated series, although the National Commission (CNB) is aware that competition cannot be forced.

The teams will have 29 players and, from now on, there will be no registrations or deletions, including a team that presents cases of Covid-19. If this situation arises and that cast is left without available players, it will lose any possibility of continuing its actions because the Series cannot be stopped, Reinoso said.

The national commissioner said that there would only be a change if there was a serious injury certified by the CNB doctor or a previous result of the PCR performed on an athlete with symptoms of Covid-19.

This year Cuban Baseball must intervene in several international events and the competition cannot be stopped. That is why we ask everyone to take extreme measures and respect what is indicated to avoid possible contagion in the teams, as already happened in the qualifying phase, he commented.
