Díaz- Canel highlights scientific advances on COVID-19

Havana, Mar 3 - President Miguel Díaz- Canel welcomed today the advances in science against COVID-19 after the announcement of the fifth vaccine candidate in the country, Soberana 01-A, for patients recovering from the disease.

In a message published on his Twitter account, the president described this project, presented the day before at the usual meeting of the highest government leadership with researchers, as another milestone for Cuban scientists.

Díaz- Canel also highlighted the progress of two other candidates to the third phase of clinical trials (Soberana-02 and Abdala) and of Soberana-01, the first presented in the nation, to stage two.

Very soon, phase 3 of clinical trials of # Soberana02 and #Abdala in Havana, Santiago and Guantánamo, with more than 85 thousand volunteers. Also phase 2 of # Soberana01 in Cienfuegos. Hope comes, but let's not forget responsibility, he wrote on the microblogging network .

The day before, in a meeting with scientists and experts, the head of state reiterated his appreciation for these advances in the most complex moment of confronting the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

We are getting closer to the moment when we can safely vaccinate the population massively and this news has come when we face the outbreak that has cost us the most work to control, he added.

This news opens up new expectations in the population, but there must always be the conviction that we are going to work first and foremost with an enormous responsibility so as not to risk human lives, he said. (PL) (Photo: File)
