Havana, Apr 14 - More than adding new sanitary measures, what Cuba is most lacking is complying with what is established, especially what was thought at the beginning of the epidemic and that gave results. This certainty, born from analyzes alluding to the epidemiological situation of Havana in times of coronavirus, is also a valuable lesson for each territory of the country.
Such a sense of clarity about what should be done, that exhortation to discipline, turned out to be a core concept, this Tuesday, during the meeting of the Temporary Working Group for the Prevention and Control of COVID-19, which was headed by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz- Canel Bermúdez, the second secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba, José Ramón Machado Ventura, and the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz.
From the Palace of the Revolution and via videoconference, the country's leadership held exchanges, as usual, with authorities from different provinces. And regarding the capital, the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz, said that now, rather than engaging in a group of measures, "the most important thing is to demand strict compliance with what is established."
What needs to be done is clear, said the Head of Government, who recalled that this idea had been expressed previously by the Cuban President.
On Havana, an obligatory reference scenario to measure how the country is doing in the fight against COVID-19, the Minister of Public Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, reported that this Monday the number of positive cases for the disease had increased in relation to with the previous day (192 more; that is, 45.3 percent more).
At the meeting, the analysis of the provinces went in the direction of seeking, as President Díaz- Canel Bermúdez has said, the suit tailored to each epidemiological situation. In the case of the province of Pinar del Río, for example, the Head of State spoke to his authorities about the relevance of continuing to insist on the management of hospital discharges, while detailing the figures of active cases.
“You have, said Díaz- Canel, four days below 50 cases per day; and in the last two days, 30 and 21 ". Based on this information, the president suggested specifying a set of well-organized actions that would help the western territory to give a final blow to the transmission of the disease.
During the day, the authorities of Mayabeque also reported on the epidemiological situation of their respective provinces -where this Monday the number of COVID-19 cases increased in relation to the previous day-; from Matanzas and Sancti Spíritus –where the trend was growing-; as well as Granma and Santiago de Cuba - where the numbers decreased.
In the voice of the Minister of Health, José Ángel Portal Miranda, the country's situation was updated from multiple data: In the last 15 days, 15 062 cases were diagnosed positive for the new coronavirus for an incidence rate of 134.6 per 100 thousand inhabitants. In this sense, Havana (359.9), Matanzas (231.8), Granma (168.7), Sancti Spíritus (162.9) and Pinar del Río (109.9) maintain the highest indicator.
Cuba, detailed the headline, accumulates a total of 476 deaths due to the epidemic, for a fatality of 0.54 percent. (Presidency Cuba)
