Havana, Apr 20 - Vice President of Cuba, Salvador Valdes, today congratulated the president Miguel Diaz Canel about his 61st birthday and the recent election as first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba(PCC).
In a message posted on his Twitter account, Valdés also wished success in the continuity of the Cuban Revolution.
For his part, the head of Public Health, José Ángel Portal, welcomed the anniversary and ratified the sector's commitment to combat COVID-19.
"Count on Cuban health workers to continue fighting, together with our people, the battle of # CubaPorLaVida, " he wrote on the digital platform.
Meanwhile, the deputy director general for the United States of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Johana Tablada, recognized the work of the president in the face of the hostile policy against Cuba and internal problems.
"The task is hard but glorious if it advances to the rhythm of the heartbeat of our people who deserve only and nothing less than victory over soulless external aggression and our own obstacles and inadequacies," he posted on his Twitter account.
Díaz- Canel was born in 1960 in the central province of Villa Clara.
In 1994 he held the position of first secretary of the PCC in that territory and later in eastern Holguín.
He was appointed Minister of Higher Education in 2009, a position he held until 2012 when he became Vice President of the Council of Ministers.
In 2013 he held the position of first vice president of the Councils of State and Ministers and in 2018 he was elected president of both.
Since 2019, in accordance with the new nomenclature stipulated in the Constitution of April 2019, he has served as President of the Republic of Cuba.
In addition, he was elected the day before as the first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba. (Text and photo: PL)
