Havana, May 7 - With a performance at the San Cugat Auditorium Theater, the Spanish tour of the Alicia Alonso Centennial Gala will begin today, which will run until June 6.
This tour, which will cover more than 15 cities, including Madrid, Alicante, Zaragoza, Valladolid, Cádiz, Córdoba and Málaga, was scheduled to take place in 2020, around the date of the birth of the prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso (1920- 2019), on December 21, but the pandemic forced its cancellation.
According to a press release from the Cuban National Ballet (BNC), thanks to the collaboration of the theaters and other organizers, it has been possible to reschedule it for this year with a luxury cast made up of important dance figures from Cuba and other countries.
Anette Delgado and Dani Hernández top the list as first dancers of the BNC, along with Ginett Moncho, who will perform with Alexis Tutunnique, principal dancer of the Kiev Ballet.
Carla Vincelli, principal dancer at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, will also participate in the company of Javier Torres, currently leading figure in the Northern Ballet (Great Britain); the Spanish Eva Nazaret and the Cuban Javier Monier; and Oriana Plaza, principal dancer of the Municipal Ballet of Lima, Peru, whose partner is Maynard Miranda, also Cuban and principal dancer of the Sibiu Theater Ballet, in Romania.
The program includes selections from several emblematic works of Alicia Alonso's career, such as Giselle, Carmen, Swan Lake, Don Quixote, Nutcracker, La fille mal gardée, Coppélia, Espartaco and La diva, to which is added a great final with the participation of all artists.
Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday, the gala will arrive at the Principal Theater of Zaragoza, with a program that includes a few words from Pedro Simón, director of the National Museum of Cuban Dance, where he says: “That young people dance in honor of Alicia Alonso, it is the purest and most fair action that can be conceived before the Centennial of a figure who praised, like few others, the art of classical ballet, and all dance, with his personal interpretive genius and with the teachings that he bequeathed to generations of dancers of his time and the future ”.
According to the information, the performances will continue on May 12 at the Romea Theater in Murcia; on the 13th, at the Teatro Principal in Alicante; on the 14th, at the Gran Teatro de Elche; on the 15th, at the Río de Ibi Theater; and on the 16th, at the José María Rodero Theater, in Torrejón de Ardoz.
The program will continue on May 17, at the Gran Vía Theater in Madrid; on the 20th, 21st, 22nd and 23rd, at the Calderón Theater in Valladolid; on the 25th, in the Falla de Cádiz; on the 26th, at the Cervantes in Malaga; on the 27th at the Gran Teatro de Córdoba; on the 29th, at the Mira de Pozuelo de Alarcón Theater; on the 30th, at the El Greco Auditorium in Toledo; on June 2 at the Teatro Principal in Zamora; the 3 in the Palace of Festivals of Santander; on the 5th, at the Terrasa Cultural Center ; and on the 6th, at the Kursaal Theater in Manresa.
Mayda Bustamante is in charge of the general direction of the galas, the artistic direction corresponds to an outstanding figure of the Cuban ballet, the first dancer Orlando Salgado; the stage direction, script and creation of the audiovisual that will be present throughout the gala, to Liuba Cid; and as maître d 'and rehearser will be the first Cuban dancer Lázaro Carreño.
