Havana, May 13 - Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez emphasized today that the US blockade affects the island's families in their daily lives.
Through his Twitter account, the headline stressed that the siege of Washington was intensified during the COVID-19 pandemic, under the previous administration of Donald Trump.
Like COVID-19, this inhumane policy harms the Cuban family. It must stop, he added on the social network.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, the blockade constitutes the greatest obstacle to national development and a violation of human rights.
The accumulated damages in six decades amount to 144 thousand 413 million dollars, and between April 2019 and March 2020, this policy caused losses of more than five billion dollars, a record figure for a year, he pointed out.
The northern administration insists that the blockade seeks to affect only the island's government, however, every year the economic siege causes millions in losses in sectors with high social impact such as education, health, transportation, and technological development, among others.
On June 23, Cuba will present again to the United Nations the resolution on the need to end the U.S. blockade against Cuba, in which it mentions the damage suffered by the population.
For 28 years, the international community has voted in favor of lifting this siege, but Washington ignores this request and under Trump's mandate it applied more than 240 new coercive measures to reinforce its hostility against the Caribbean nation. (Text and photo: PL)
