San Salvador, June 5 - A court in El Salvador today ordered house arrest for former Congressman Ernesto Muyshondt, recently appointed advisor to the Organization of American States (OAS).
Muyshondt, mayor of San Salvador from 2018 to 2021 for the right-wing Nationalist Republican Alliance, is accused of electoral fraud and illegal negotiations.
In addition to the house arrest, the second investigating court of San Salvador imposed the use of an electronic bracelet and prohibited him from leaving the country without the authorization of the courts.
The appointment of the former deputy to a position in the OAS made El Salvador decide to cease its work with said organization to confront corruption through an International Commission Against Impunity. (PL)
