Tokyo, July 27.- The Cuban Julio César La Cruz (91 kilograms) began competitions today and beat the unknown Kenyan Ajowi Ochola 5-0 with comfortable votes, in the boxing contest of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
In the Kokugikan Arena, the four-time world champion and olympic champion La Cruz gave his rival a good boxing class, hit him from all angles and at three distances to overcome him with votes of 30-26, 30-24, 30 -24, 30-24 and 30-23.
Thus, the right-hander from Camagüey ensured his advance to the next competitive phase and on the next day 30 he will face the Cuban nationalized Spanish Enmanuel Reyes, who knocked out Olympic runner-up Vassiliy Levit (KAZ) in the first round.
La Cruzʼs victory joins the one achieved today by welterweight Roniel Iglesias, olympic and world champion, who closed 3-2 of the Japanese Quincy Sewonrets.
This Wednesday two other Cubans will enter the ring: Lázaro Álvarez (57) will face Iranian Daniyal Shahbakhsh and Arlen López (81) will face Algerian Mohammed Houmri. (Text and photo: ACN)
